Expedition to Mt Elbrus (5642m)
Mount Elbrus is the highest point in Europe at 5642 metres (18,510 feet). It is located in the Caucasus mountain range, which separates Europe from Asia and the Middle East. The mountain is found in Southern Russia, on the border with Georgia, 200 km from the Black Sea.
The best months for climbing Elbrus are July and August. The air pressure in these months is the highest throughout the year and hence easier for participants to be at high altitude. Elbrus is considered to be quite accessible for both inexperienced and professional mountaineers. There are no technically difficult parts and climb is simply monotonous walking. Out of four different routes up to the summit we recommend “South Comfort Route”.
South Comfort Route: a good option for safe trekking, sleeping in the hotel (3 first and 2 last night) and in warm and comfortable barrel huts (when high altitude acclimatization and summit assault), 3 hot meals per day, no heavy backpacks with the opportunity to use a snow cat on the Summit day which we highly recommend.
